General UCF KnightMoves Audition Information

Spring Tryouts 2009 - Saturday and Sunday April 4th and 5th at the "Venue" located at the UCF Arena.
Fall Tryouts WILL be held. Please wear appropriate dance attire (prefer crop top and dance shorts) and jazz shoes. Skills required are triple pirouette, leaps (calypso, switch and surprise), leg hold,turning leg hold, turns in second, strong technique and endurance. You should be physically performance ready. You will go through a warm-up and across the floor as well as dance combinations of jazz, pom and hip hop.

What to Wear
A black crop top or sports bra that compliments you, black shorts, and jazz shoes are required for both days. You may also bring pants and comfortable tennis shoes for hip hop. PLEASE COME WITH "PERFORMANCE" HAIR AND MAKE-UP.

*Although the top you are wearing should be a sports bra/midriff/ crop top your attire should not be revealing and pants should NOT be rolled down on hips.
*One pair of stud earrings is the only jewelry permitted. No belly rings or other body piercings and tattoos must be covered.

Fall Tryouts 2009
Walk-on fall tryouts are held during the first week of fall classes ONLY if positions on the team open up over the summer. You can contact our office at (407) 823-2143 at the beginning of August 2009 to inquire about the possibility of fall auditions.

Tryout Eligibility
Anyone who is a full time student at UCF or has received a letter of acceptance may tryout. This includes incoming freshmen and transfer students. Current UCF students must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and be free of any academic or disciplinary probation.

Academic Acceptance to UCF
If you have not yet applied and been accepted to UCF:
Prospective students may easily apply on line at www.ucf.edu/admission.html We strongly recommend that incoming Freshmen apply no later than September/October of their senior year. How to improve your chances for academic acceptance and tryout success:

    HS Sophomores & Juniors
    1. Maintain a high core GPA.
    2. Take the SAT/ACT test for the first time by the spring of your Junior year.
    3. Take a campus tour and attend the spring College Prep clinic offered by UCF's team. (click HERE for the 2009 Spring College Prep Clinic Form)
    4. Be sure that you have filled out and submitted a prospect information sheet (click HERE for Prospect Sheet) and emailed or turned it in. This will allow us to track your progress through high school and keep you informed of updates with our program.
    HS Seniors
    1. Apply for admission to UCF no later than October of your senior year.
    2. If you are concerned about getting accepted you may want to consider applying for summer admission. Standards for summer admission are often not as stringent as it is for the fall.
    3. Arrange for a "College Day" visit to take an official tour of the campus and try to include a fall football weekend or fall basketball game to watch our dance team in action. Campus tours can be arranged on line by Clicking HERE
    4. Attend our college prep clinic in February of your senior year.
    5. Be certain that you have an updated Prospect Sheet on file in our office. (click HERE for Prospect Sheet)

Physical Preparation Tips for Tryouts
UCF College Prep Clinics: Each Spring, we hold a one day college prep dance clinic on the Friday prior to the audition. This year's 2009 KnightMoves College Prep Clinic is scheduled for Friday, April 3rd. For the college prep clinic registration form, click HERE. This clinic is designed for women who are trying out for college dance teams and want to prepare for auditions. HS Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors who attend will have an opportunity to meet our coaching staff and work with our team members. This is an excellent opportunity to improve your skills and can provide an invaluable experience.

Skill Requirements
Each prospective dancer will be evaluated on their flexibility, stylistic variety and their performance of the specific skills. We have listed a few of the skills that may be a part of the audition process. Please be prepared to demonstrate all skills on both right and left sides.

- Turns (doubles, triples and quads, leg hold and fouettes)

- Dances (Jazz & Hip Hop Routine will be taught)

- Leaps (a Grande Jete, Side Leap, Calypso, Turning toe touch, Switch Leap both front and open)

- Motions (UCF Fight Song and a pom routine/ band dance will be taught)

- Toe Touch Jump

- Ability to lead and engage a crowd

- Interview

Method of Evaluation
The team is selected by the coaching staff at UCF. Cuts are made after each session until the final day when the team is named. Audition sessions are closed to the public and are limited ONLY to the coaching staff and the applicants.

Tryout Schedule & Locations
Tryouts for the 2009-2010 KnightMoves Dance Team tryouts will be held over the weekend of April 4th and 5th. College Prep Clinic on April 3rd (held at the Education Complex Gymnasium)
- Although not a requirement for participating in the audition, this can be helpful in preparing you for the audition the next day.

  • Saturday, April 4th - 8:30-9:15 registration held at the "Venue" located at the UCF Arena.
    9:15-12:30 start time - floor work and skills evaluation - (cut)
    12:30-2:30 lunch
    2:30-5:30 session I (cut)
    5:45-9:00 Interviews
  • Sunday April 5th - 9:00 AM - start time - session II at the "Venue" located at the UCF Arena.
    12:00 - 12:15 short break
    12:15 (final cut)
    2:00-4:00 Team Meeting

What to Bring the First Day of Tryouts
1. Bring a "copy" of either your UCF Student I.D. or "copy" of your acceptance letter. * Please do not bring the originals as a copy machine will not be available.
2. Bring a "copy" of your medical insurance card.

Can I Tryout by Sending a Video Tape?
No. You must go through an IN PERSON tryout in order to be selected to the team. This means that in order to tryout you must make the trip to Orlando and show your skills in person.
